The Ordinary retinol 1% in squalane

Hi guys, I want to add to the list of the products I have used from The ordinary range. And that is The ordinary Retinol 1% in squalane.

revive

What it looks like

The bottle is dark in color, available in 30ml and contains a dropper. The content is a yellowish fluid. This beauty is water-free and contains stable Retinol in squalane (the squalane gives it the greasy feel, but this dries up after application).

Ingredients

Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Retinol, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, BHT

How to use

I use The Ordinary Salicylic acid and Niacinamide+zinc in the morning. Then later in the evening, I apply the retinol after cleansing. A little amount goes a long way, and because it is oily, allow it to dry up before going to bed.

What not to use with

As the Retinol is quite heavy in concentration and water-free, it is recommended to use after lighter and water-containing regimens.

Also, you may notice skin reactions such as peeling and redness (I had a few after I began using it which disappeared two days after) on the first few applications. But they clear up immediately. The reaction is the way by which the skin gets accustomed to it.

How does it work?

Retinol is a highly potent anti-aging (decreases fine lines and wrinkles and uneven tone) chemical that promotes the production of new cells, thereby ridding the skin of old cells and giving way for radiant and healthy-looking skin. Furthermore, it reduces blemishes and dark spots.

Any downside to using The Ordinary retinol 1% in squalane?

Yes, I already mentioned the skin reaction (redness, peeling) that may occur as you begin using it. In order to reduce the chances of this happening, start applying about 2 times a week, then move it up gradually.

Another option is to opt for smaller concentrations like 0.5% or 0.2% and increase concentration as they run out.

The last, but not the least, is the use of Granactive retinoids 5% or 2% instead of this formulation. I am considering trying one of these after mine runs out.

What skin type is it good for?

Every type of skin (oily, dry, combination and dry). For dry skin, one can apply an additional moisturizer to prevent further drying of the skin. I will advise that people with sensitive skin should use lower concentrations and see how their skin reacts.

Don't forget your sunscreen :)

Avoid exposing your skin to sunlight when using this product.

My thoughts on The ordinary retinol 1% in squalane

I will give it 5 out of 5 stars. It is amazing, this beauty is my new love. I like it even more than The ordinary Alpha-lipoic acid.

Yours in the flawless skin journey, Nafisah NK
