You find these skincare products you love so much, maybe a moisturizing cream, gel or bar cleanser, serum, toner... any product. After use for a while, it seems like it's just not effective anymore. What a bummer!

Some explanations for this weird happening :D
- It may really be as simple as that: that your skin has developed some kind of resistance to the regime, or it just got boring. My advice is to switch to a different product. But before you do that, observe your skin and see if it changed, for instance, it became less oily and may just need some hydration. In this scenario, change from an oil-stripping regimen to a hydrating care set and see the miracles that unfold. Remember, oily skin does not equal to hydrated skin. The same goes for dry skin, always keep it moisturized especially in the winter period.
- Hormonal cycles can explain it also: For example, when we girls are in our mid-cycle (you know, the ovulation period), the skin all of a sudden becomes oily and we start experiencing breakouts. They appear from nowhere and you wonder 'Oh Lord!! where did I go wrong? So, this may be the time to switch up a bit to a less oily cream or products for oily skin. Another option is that you just give it a few days and the breakouts will subside. Meanwhile, a low-fat diet and lots of hydration are crucial in this phase.
- Stress: We all have those moments where we are so occupied with life, like work, family, exams, etc. There is a stress hormone which rises in the body during these times and one of the most common outcomes are breakouts and/or dry skin (among other symptoms), depends on the skin's reaction to stress and how healthy one is. The best method is to find ways to relax. And for situations that are temporary, also find opportunities to calm down your nerves and know that whatever it is, it will end. Don't forget to stay healthy by eating well and drinking lots of fluid.
More reasons? hehe
- Your mind may be playing tricks with you: Perhaps it is not your skin that stopped being sensitive to it, but you just got over the once lovely product, winks.
- After some time, a product can lose its potency, even before its expiry date. To avoid or reduce the chances of this happening, use up on time and do not leave them open when they have to be shut tight, store them at adequate temperatures too (not all skincare products are meant for humid places like the bathroom).

Interesting read - I tend to use a variety of skincare, so am not too loyal to a certain skincare. Though I do recognise hormonal cycles changes in my skin - so annoying!
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said. I also find that sometimes it's simply because I've heard the hype of another product and all of a sudden my current regime doesn't live up to that hype so I talk myself into purchasing something else! Consumerism definitely plays a role I think! Thanks for sharing x

I often find this, and it's frustrating as I have quite sensitive skin so I need to use products I know work for me. I tend to switch between winter products and summer products which works really well for me.
ReplyDeleteYes I do find some products work less effectively and I do change things up as often as I can. That said I'm now one for finishing something before replacing it so sometimes get stuck for a while with products I no longer love!
ReplyDeleteI tend to switch products for exactly this reason...I do think your skin gets used to them after a while otherwise. Glad it's not just me who thought so!
ReplyDeleteLol..it's not just you xx
ReplyDeleteI completely understand your point. xx
ReplyDeleteit can be quite frustrating. Oh good to know :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, consumerism is a big factor
ReplyDeleteVery annoying. I am experiencing one at the moment..
ReplyDeleteSome interesting points here I'd never thought about. I've noticed my skin has started going haywire every couple of weeks, I'll have to pay more attention if it's linked to my hormone cycle.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by xx
ReplyDeleteReally great points here, I've been feeling like my skins grown resistant to my skin care regime. I'll Definietly be taking these into consideration with changing things up.
ReplyDeleteGlad it is helpful xx
