Here are ways you can use lemon

Some of Us have encountered scenarios where we are advised to use lemon either as part of a remedy or for cosmetic purposes. It is mainly known for its culinary uses.

Of recent, It has become a must-have in my home. There is always a use for it.

This sour-tasting yellow fruit has gained popularity in alternative medicine.

It belongs to the citrus family(others are orange, lime, tangerine, grapefruit). It has a very high content of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and citric acid. Citric acid gives it its sour taste.

Vitamin C is an essential component in healing and skin rejuvenation.

In addition, it contains flavonoids. Flavonoids are antioxidants. Antioxidants remove free radicals in the body, which would otherwise cause harm.

Different uses for Lemon

As Facial, body Masks and scrub

  • Alone
For darkened and smelly armpits, Lemon juice can be applied either directly or with cotton wool. Allow it to dry off, then wash off with water.
  • With honey and banana
When combined with honey and banana, it makes a great facial mask for oily skin. With constant use, clearer skin with reduced blemishes will be observed.

Lemon lightens the skin, it also has antibacterial effects. Honey retains the skin's moisture.
  • With coconut milk and honey
A combination with coconut milk and honey nourishes dry skin.

  • With sugar as a Body scrub

Sugar mixed with lemon juice (You can add cinnamon and mint oil) serves as an excellent exfoliator, especially for darkened knuckles and spots on the body. Leave on for 15-20minutes after application before rinsing it off. Afterward, moisturize with coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil. Use 2-3 times in a week.

Take note:

  1. The outcomes are not permanent, and. It may take several uses before changes are observed. Therefore, it is best to use continuously, or when needed.

  2. Scrubs and masks are not for daily application. Ideally, they are to be used 2-3 times a week.

Other Uses

  • Cold and sore throat remedy

Ginger, garlic, honey, and lemon provide an awesome relief for colds. The ginger, garlic (in equal amounts) should be blended together, sieve the blended mixture to remove the chaff. Pour the liquid in a jar, add honey and lemon. It can be stored for a long period of time.

This preparation can be taken with tea or on its own.

  • Weight loss and detoxification
A warm cup of water with some squeeze of lemon detoxifies the body. With constant, but moderate consumption, a fresh feel and look will be noticed. It preferably should be taken in the morning or at night.

Furthermore, it helps in weight loss.

What are its downsides

  • Skin irritation
Lemon juice, due to its acidic nature, makes it a harsh substance. Avoid applying it on to damaged or broken skin in order to prevent irritation. In addition, in order to prevent sun damage, it is advised to use sunscreen after use.

t can worsen Mouth Sores

  • Tooth(enamel) decay
Because it is acidic, it can lead to the breakdown of the enamel. As such, it is better to dilute it before intake.
  • Increased stomach acidity, heartburn, GERD
Those with an ulcer, reflux disease can relate to the worrying heartburn. The stomach fluid is already acidic. As a result, intake of undiluted or high amounts of lemon juice will only worsen the situation.

The Conclusion

Yes, it lightens the skin. However, not permanently.
Also, when consumed moderately, it has a lot of beneficial effects on the skin and the body at large.
