Hey guys!! I have been doing yoga practices (Yoga with Adrienne) recently. And I have to admit that I love the benefits that I have gained from it. The outcomes are incredible, it has helped to improve my emotional, psychological and physical well-being.
My classmate and friend from the Public health Masters program did research to showcase the benefits of yoga on the health of students.
Her name is Shalini Chauhan (Seerat), and she is a yoga expert. I had the opportunity to be in one of her yoga classes (picture of me below) and I enjoyed every second of it.
We have seen scientific evidence of what yoga can do for an individual's health.
Seerat's research has both students' experiences as well as references from research articles.
"Yoga focuses on the harmony between mind and body. It includes a combination of muscular activity and breathing activity which affects the stress level and improve sleep quality. Yoga is a multi-beneficial technique or strategy to change the way of life towards a healthy lifestyle. In the science of yoga, asana is an important and popular form. 'Asana' is a posture performed without difficulty.
The aim of asana is to attain steadiness of body and mind, and feeling of lightness, flexibility and relaxing mind. Posture is very important for practicing asana. The practice of asana is needed to achieve Japa and meditation. The spine should be straight while practicing any meditative pose.
Pranayama comprises of developing a focus on one’s own breathing followed by willful regulation of respiration as the functional basis of one’s existence.
Its benefit is to establish control over the mind and have a stress-free life. For the beginner, this is performed by developing an awareness of the “flow of in breath and out breathe” through nostrils, mouth and other body openings.
Yoga and meditation are an invaluable gift from ancient Indian tradition. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with us, the world and nature, by changing lifestyle and creating consciousness."
I will see you soon with more beneficial stuff.

I will share with you now the summary of her thesis
- Yoga is regarded as a complementary treatment or strategy because of its low cost, easy maintenance.
- Another major point in its favor is better public acceptance. High acceptance by the public is the most important point for me here.
- The method used for the research was a survey method. Self-prepared questionnaires were used for students to relate feedbacks about
- the impact of the yoga practice on their immediate well-being,
- improved efficiency,
- better sleep,
- increased physical activity,
- increased healthy eating,
- improved concentration and
- an optimistic outlook toward continuing yoga in the future.
The results of the research showing the benefits of yoga.
- Enrollment involved 74 students, 21 to 28 years. "During the yoga class, we suggested to the students to have some change in their daily routine, such as 'try not to eat heavy dinner after 7 pm' and 'to have proper breakfast meal'. "
- Furthermore, a few dietary guidelines were recommended to the students. which would ensure that the body and mind are flexible and well prepared for the practice.
- On the quality of sleep. Falling asleep between 0 and 15 minutes meant good quality, and greater than 1 hour indicated the worst quality. The difference in the quality of sleep increased among the participants from 43% to 77%. Therefore, 34% or more of students started to fall asleep between 0-15 minutes.
- Also, there was a massive improvement (about 28%) in the participants' social lives.
- In addition, the proportion of students who spent more than 30 minutes walking increased by more than half, and less spent time sitting down.
- Finally, out of 74 students who participated, more than half reduced the amount of coffee/ stimulants they consumed during the day. 50% and above is classified as an excellent response!!
