Stop making some of these mistakes that cause or worsen Your Breakouts

Generally, 'breakouts' is a term that is used for pimples, acne, blackheads, and whiteheads. Acne is more genetically inclined (One type is seen in puberty). Pimples are what we get every once in a while, it can occur in any skin type but people with oily skin suffer it most. They are both caused by clogged pores.

Sometimes you wonder why your breakouts keep coming back or even lead to scarring. They persist even when you cleanse and exfoliate the skin all the time. In some peoples' terms, 'I have tried everything to no avail'.

There are one/many simple things you may not have done.

Perhaps, you have not stopped:
  • Picking on them

How to prevent pimples

This will further worsen it by leading to scar formation. These scars may become permanent.
  • Using dirty hands to touch Your face

Because You become self-conscious of those breakouts, you have often tempted to stroke the face or pop them. Stop it, and if you cannot resist it ( I am guilty of this), be sure to use clean hands.

The hands are used for everything. Therefore, they easily propagate bacteria (acne-causing bacteria) and other kinds of germs.
  • Stressing too much

I mentioned in an earlier post that stress makes the body to produce stress hormones. These hormones have so many negative effects on the skin such as acne, darkened skin, etc.
  • Going to bed with make-up on

No matter how tired or lazy you are, wipe off left-over make-up and cleanse your face before going to bed.

Apart from causing sebum (oil) to build up in your skin (clogged pores), your pillows and bedsheets will be smudged and this can lead to a vicious cycle of breakouts.
  • Leaving sweat on Your face to dry up

Allowing sweat (this could be after a work-out or a strenuous job, or maybe you easily sweat) to dry up on your face can result in clogged pores.
  • Allowing oil from Your hair to fall on Your face

Apply just enough oil on the scalp. And if it creeps down on your forehead or temples, dab with a clean pad or cloth immediately.
  • Washing Your face only once a day

This is especially for those with oily skin. Cleanse your face twice a day in order to avoid blockage of pores by oil (sebum). On the other hand, washing the face excessively can rid the skin of its natural oils, this leads to the negative feedback that can increase the skin' oiliness (the skin senses that there is not enough oil, thereby producing more in return)
  • Using Your body towel to clean Your Face

Set aside a separate towel or cloth to clean your face after a bath.
  • Eating too much junk food consuming too much greasy food is unhealthy, not only for the skin but for the whole body.

  • Leaving your make-up applicators dirty

Depending on how often you use the make-up brushes and other applicators, ensure that they are cleaned often. Other items like exfoliators, facecloths and tweezers should be sterilized as well.

Keep in my mind that, as these are habits, it takes some time to stop them completely. This is because you subconsciously do them. But with determination, you will definitely notice positive changes.

In addition to this, using the right skincare products for your skin type (in this case, those formulated for oily or acne-prone skin) will ensure you become drastically less-prone to breakouts.

Stay healthy and beautiful,

Yours in the flawless skin journey, Nafisah NK

  5. Great tips here!! I find that the sweat tip is great for post-workouts - for your body as well. I find my shoulders can breakout if I don't wipe with a washcloth or makeup wipe right after. I nominated you for the Liebster Award also!! :) :)
